Amgen is a leading human therapeutics company in the biotechnology industry, a pioneer in the development of novel products based on advances in recombinant DNA and molecular biology. Established in 1980, as a pioneer company in biotechnology, Amgen is one of the first pharmaceutical companies to implement the scientific accomplishments in the development of novel products from the laboratory, through their production to their delivery to the patients.   For more than 25 years we have focused on accomplishing our mission to serve patients.

As a company dedicated to the advance in science which changes and improves people lives in depth, Amgen engages in a broad research and development programmes (R&D) to create the numerous molecule modalities, promising new medicines in its portfolio – ones that target ill cells and ones that support normal cells. About 20% of sales are invested in R&D each year.  

As part of its international programme for global development, which aims at expansion of its worldwide presence and better access to its vital medicines, Amgen officially opened its affiliate and set the ground for independent activity in Bulgaria on the 2nd of October 2009.

More than five years Amgen is present in the country with a significant programme of clinical trials. Over 60 clinical centers and over 450 patients have been part of those trials.  

In accordance with its mission, values and principles, Amgen hopes to work together with the Bulgarian scientific society and with the government in order with pooled efforts to improve the access of patients in Bulgaria to vital medicines, as biotechnology medicines are part of the newest and most effective ways to treat serious illnesses like cancer, kidney diseases and osteoporosis. Those medicines amount to 20% of the whole medicine market and that percentage is constantly increasing.
